SeLana Cross and I met some years ago when we were both models in Houston. I admit it...I'm like everyone else and by that, I mean NOSY! LOL So I started going through her IG profile and saw that my girl is an esthetician now. I found her business page, @BBOXX_ , and booked an appointment on her website for a "Fresh Face" facial with a CBD Oil Collagen Face Mask. Believe it or not, this was going to my first professional facial, so I was glad to be trusting my face to someone I knew. After my facial, Selana and I had an opportunity to catch up.
How long have you been an esthetician and how’d you get your start into skincare?
SeLana: I have been an Esthetician for over 4yrs. As a young girl, I have always been interested in beauty, hair, and skin care. My mom always said, "If you want good skin, you have to moisturize." I also took cosmetology in high school but did not stick with it due to other professional avenues I wanted to do. Fast forward to 2017, with the passing of my father, something came over me to pursue what I'd been wanting to do-- esthetician school. Once I enrolled and learned a few techniques, the school allowed me to do lashes. That is when I met Ashely, owner of SlimR’U Med Spa. She told me she had a position for me once I graduated and allowed me to do hands-on training during weekends. It’s been on-going since then!
What services do you provide at BeautyBoxx and what is your specialty?
SeLana: My specialty is dermaplaning. I providing good organic facials tailored to the persons skin. I also offer Yoni steam (V-Steam), as well as high-frequency and hydro-facials.
Tell us about the CBD Facial.
The CBD Facial is an all-around relaxing service which uses CBD infused products, of course. I use a CBD facial cleanser to help with the removal of dirt and it help soften the skin. Next, I exfoliate the skin. Lastly, I smooth a CBD hydro-jelly mask onto the clients face and place them under an LED red light for a few moments.
***Dope Note*** The use of LED light therapy during facials helps in treating acne, regulating natural oil production, stimulating collagen and elastin and minimizing redness and wrinkles.
What makes CBD a great ingredient to use on your skin?
Selana: CBD has a large scope of benefits. CBD is great for irritated and sensitive skin due to its anti-inflammatory components. Using skin products infused with CBD will have your skin feeling soothe, fresh and balanced.
How do you keep up with knowledge of the latest trends in esthetics and skin care?
SeLana: I’m always researching online classes to take and attending skincare seminars.

What are some factors you consider when recommending skincare products for a client?
SeLana: I consider the type of skin my client has, what they are trying to accomplish with their skin goals and of course, the clients budget.
What products should everyone have in their skin care routine at home?
SeLana: The key to amazing skin is in your daily routine. Everyone should have a good cleanser, exfoliate, a toner, moisturizer and a sunscreen.
What are some ingredients to avoid when choosing products for your skin care routine?
SeLana: Avoid using products with alcohol, silicone, and perfumes.
What has been your proudest moment since you’ve been in business as an esthetician?
SeLana: I enjoy when a client falls asleep during their facial and wakes up to see their glow afterward.
Where do you see yourself in this business five years from now?
SeLana: I see myself teaching others what I have learned and sharing my experiences in this industry. I see myself creating my own skin care products such as a moisturizer and a day/night cream. I also want to help teens learn how to better care for their skin.
